The Outdoor Education Journey of young Lauries men begins in Primary School as they venture out to Camp Laurence for the very first time.
Canoeing, high and low ropes, mountain biking and archery are just some of the adventure activities that they take part in.
Camp Laurence is located on the shores of Lake Moogerah at the base of the Great Dividing Range in the beautiful Scenic Rim, approximately 1 hours’ drive from Brisbane, 1.5 hours’ drive from Toowoomba and 50 minutes from Warwick.
The 11-hectare property can host up to 180 guests in cabin and dormitory style accommodation.
It has a large commercial kitchen, dining hall, spectacular undercover area, and numerous adventure activities.
Students will experience sleeping in a tent, cooking for themselves and navigating by canoe/foot/mountain bike to their campground. Emphasis is placed on the students developing independence, taking responsibility and building resilience.
The Senior School Year 11 Leadership Retreat is held at Camp Laurence in Term 3. As a part of the retreat students take part in a series of sessions designed to help them examine their own personal values, discuss the attributes of a leader, discover the importance of taking calculated risks and how persistence, resilience and acceptance affect their abilities in a positive way. On the final night the students are joined by their parents and wider Lauries community for a Mass and BBQ dinner.
Our aim, at the forefront, is to provide a quality, safe and dynamic experience for St Laurence College students by providing a platform for personal growth through a sequential Outdoor Education Program that builds from year to year.
“A milestone in the development of the College is being reached this year with the establishment of our own Camp, or what may be more euphemistically called an environmental field study centre, at Lake Moogerah. The idea was conceived in 1974 and has become a reality this year… An innovations Grant from the Australian Government of $4,750 enabled us to proceed with this venture…”
