On Friday 3 September, over 500 Year 4 and Year 6 students from across Brisbane took part in this year's Orientation Day. Focused on providing an opportunity for Year 5 and Year 7 2022 students to meet their fellow students, soon-to-be teachers and student leaders, the Orientation Day is the first of many days our newest students have to look forward to at Lauries. Current Year 6 Lauries students also joined the newest Lauries boys to start building connections with their new peers.
Parents joined their son's for a Welcome and prayer from College Principal, Chris Leadbetter and Acting Principal Ben Lowrie before heading the boys headed off to numerous activities and parents moved to Year level specific information sessions. For incoming Primary students, they met 2022 Head of Year 5, Michael Sharkey as well as spent time with other Year 5 teachers as they got acquainted with the Primary Precinct and some of the tasks they will be working on next year. Incoming Year 7 students met their Heads of House and some of next year's student leaders, played games on Gair Field plus handball against the Senior students and heard about the sport and music opportunities available to them. All boys also enjoyed a tour of the campus as well as a delicious morning tea and lunch.
While all boys were wearing their current school uniforms, they were encouraged to branch out from their current connections and to converse with students from other schools. By the end of the day, boys from schools and suburbs all around Brisbane were chatting, playing and embarking on their first steps towards life-long friendships.
