FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Schools are very cyclical places. Each term is a cycle of learning, wellbeing and community. Each year the cycle of a school is brought to life by what we would term ‘milestones’. Milestones occur in each phase of learning, at different ages and all along each individual's Lauries Journey. This week marked a milestone in the school year as all students returned for Term 2 wearing the College Blazer. It was fantastic to be on assembly on Wednesday seeing nearly 2,000 boys proudly dressed in their winter uniform, representing the history of the many great Lauries gentlemen that have walked before them.
At the same Assembly, our students were challenged to set themselves up for success in Term 2 by emphasising the values of courtesy and respect in the community and prioritising their learning from day one. With a multitude of co-curricular, service and learning opportunities on offer this term, it is important that students work with their families to create the right balance between study and co-curricular. Whilst both carry their own importance in a young man’s life, the right balance between them will enable success.
Another significant milestone that occurred in the last week of Term 1 was the Year 12 Formal. It was a pleasure to see our students dressed in their best and celebrating with their community, guests and families. I would like to particularly thank the Pastoral Team and all the staff who attended, supervised and supported the event.
Over the holidays the College completed minor upgrades to facilities at both the Stephens Road Campus and the Runcorn Sporting Fields. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing rain during Term 1 and external drainage issues, parts of the College Sporting Fields have experienced significant damage. This weekend, Fields 2 and 3 will remain under repair as the grounds staff at Runcorn work to have the fields playable. This may cause some variation in the usual draw for Football and Rugby teams over the next few weeks. The College is committed to repairing these fields as quickly as possible and looks forward to welcoming all families to Runcorn on Saturday regardless.
Next Thursday April 25, the College will be a part of the official Anzac Day Service at Ekibin Memorial Park. Families and students are encouraged to attend this service, with students invited to wear full school uniform. I thank Dr Liam Herbert, who is also a Major in the Australian Army, for his commitment and collaboration on the College involvement in this service.
